Mom Talk – Mothers’ Breastfeeding Groups Mothers (and fathers!) were not meant to do this alone! Research has shown that women who participate in groups with other mothers tend to adjust to motherhood more easily. Many of the mothers who attend our groups become good friends and spend time together outside of group. Other mothers find it helpful to attend a few times until they are comfortable feeding their baby. What happens at group? One of our breastfeeding educators leads the group in our front room. Moms arrive with their babies and settle in on the sofas and chairs. Any toddlers or older children usually gravitate to the play area. The leader makes sure that everyone is introduced, especially if it is their first time at group. There is always an opportunity to ask questions about breastfeeding, but many times moms choose to talk about related topics as well. You are welcome at group whether breastfeeding is going well, or whether you are struggling with some issues. What about Dads? We do not currently have a group just for fathers. However, dads are welcome to join the Wednesday morning group. There is no fee to attend and you do not need to register. Groups meet on Monday evening from 7 to 8:30 pm and on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 10 to 11:30 am. Please join us!
MilkWorks hosts a support group for parents of babies and children with food intolerances. This group meets the first and third Sundays of the month at 5pm. Led by a breastfeeding educator, the group offers support and coping skills for parents of children who have a food allergy or intolerance. Parents share recipes, discuss tips of eating at home and away from home, starting solids, food challenges and more. Please note that this group is not designed, nor intended, to diagnose food intolerances or replace the advice of your baby’s physician. There is no fee to participate, and you do not need to register. Virtual Support - MilkWorks' Email Groups Because schedules, distance and other factors can sometimes make it difficult for parents to participate at our face-to-face groups, MilkWorks offers two email support groups where parents can connect with and share ideas and information with other parents in similar situations.
See Education or Events for information on our Breastfeeding 101 class series and our nutrition classes. |
We ask that you not attend group if you or your child is sick. MilkWorks is not designed to be child proof due to the variety of services that we provide. While we do have a play area, you will be asked to supervise your children while at MilkWorks. Because there is no room to run and jump, some toddlers find it difficult to entertain themselves for the entire moms’ group. Some mothers of toddlers choose to attend La Leche League’s toddler group instead. Please call and we can provide you with information on LLL groups. Baby Weight Checks MilkWorks has a weight check station in our waiting room and you are welcome to stop in and weigh your baby on one of our digital scales any time we are open. We will teach you how to use the scale and you are welcome to keep a weight record for your baby at MilkWorks. |
